La Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali si è comportata salomonicamente, eludendo una precisa presa di posizione negativa, dichiarando che nulla di simile avrebbe potuto essere accettato in termini permanenti, ma che , per un periodo limitato (pare cinque anni), questo si sarebbe potuto accettare.

Secondo noi, data l'importanza della funzione d'accoglienza turistica per una città come Milano, si dovrebbe pensare un poco più in grande, ovvero con soluzioni che possano avere il pregio della qualità ma anche quello della definitività.
In questo senso potrebbero essere prese in considerazione due ipotesi, data l'assenza d'altri spazi di valida ampiezza nelle vicinanze di piazza del Duomo, e data la necessità di non allontanarsi dalla piazza stessa per ovvi motivi di comodità e di visibilità per gli utenti:
Una possibilità potrebbe essere data dalla presenza degli spazi commerciali di cui dispone il Comune al di sotto della piazza, che sarebbero sufficienti ed ottimamente allocati solo che se ne rendesse comodo l'accesso dalla stessa piazza. Per accedervi potrebbe essere realizzata una struttura ben visibile ma di non eccessive dimensioni in superficie, sul retro della statua equestre a Vittorio Emanuele.
L'altra possibilità potrebbe essere quella di richiamarsi al vecchio progetto dell'isolato mengoniano sul retro della stessa statua, che ha visto, a più riprese ed in diversi periodi, le più svariate proposte che ne avrebbero ripreso, almeno in parte, le planimetrie, tutte prive però dei necessari momenti e tempi di verifica, necessari data l'importanza che comportano inserimenti di tale impatto. L'ultimo di questi è stato quello essenzialmente "arboreo" secondo la proposta di Renzo Piano e Claudio Abbado, francamente privo di senso, ed anche incapace di interpretare globalmente le vere esigenze della città.
