Val Thorens: a village at 2300 m above sea level. With a business card like it should not be surprised if this place is among the most popular not only by the French, but also by the Italians. The long road to get there is certainly, as the tunnel of Frejus in here it takes about two hours. But the offer of this resort is worth the inconvenience of traveling a few more kilometers. Val Thorens is a modern village located in a large basin below the Aiguille de Peclet (3562 m) and is part of the largest ski resort in the world, "Les 3 Vallées", or 600 km of trails all connected skis. From here you can give to the nearby ski tour Les Menuires and Saint Martin de Belleville, at the bottom of the valley, go to Meribel, easily accessible through the Mont de la Chambre, or even get up to Courchevel (eye at the time of return, however, in this case!) . 
If you want to stay in Val Thorens, there are still 140 km of pistes ranging from 1800 m of the Plan de l'eau up to 3200 of Cime Caron. The tracks are all large, out of the woods, with alternations of sudden and dramatic walls. The black lines are rarely, because the French love the bumps much more than the Italians ... The plants are quite fast, especially if si pensa che sono raggiungibili da qualunque punto del paese sci ai piedi; sarebbe stata auspicabile qualche seggiovia coperta in più, vista l'altitudine...
Senz'altro le piste più entusiasmanti sono la nera e la rossa che scendono da Cime Caron e la Falaise (rossa) che scende da Breche de Rosael.
Qui la stagione è molto lunga, la neve è assicurata da novembre a maggio (grazie anche al potente impianto d'innevamento artificiale), ed è prevista la formula "soddisfatti o rimborsati".
Per chi non volesse macinare troppi chilometri, c'è anche l'opprtunità di accedere a Val Thorens da Orelle, molto più vicina al Fréjus, con il 3 Valleés Express, una comoda cabinovia che tuttavia qualche volta è chiusa se c'è troppo vento in quota...
Il paese è molto attrezzato e c'è veramente di tutto, dalle discoteche ai ristoranti tipici, dal cinema al centro sportivo. Il rapporto qualità/prezzo per il pernottamento qui è ottimo (altro che le località italiane!). Il lato negativo è senza ombra di dubbio la più totale mancanza di fascino del paese: palazzoni alti anche dieci piani, ammassati l'uno addosso all'altro. Ma si sa, non si può avere tutto...
Val Thorens è una località indicata proprio a tutti, dalle famiglie ai gruppi di giovani in cerca di un buon fuoripista, proprio per la sua offerta così ampia.
